Aizawl: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse arrived in Mizoram on September 15 for a two-day tour. She met with state Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar to map out better coordination between the Centre and the state government. Their talk focused on expanding infrastructure and building a stronger ecosystem for young talent. The visit aims to bridge the gap between grassroots potential and international success.
Khadse visited the Sports Authority of India centre in Aizawl. She walked the grounds with Assistant Director Shivam Yadav. The minister inspected current facilities and sat down with athletes, coaches, and support staff. She listened to their training stories and competitive goals. She pushed for improved coaching, scientific support, rehabilitation, and nutrition for local athletes. Quality facilities must sit closer to where these athletes live and train.
The Ministry is already backing infrastructure projects. A new synthetic hockey turf and lighting are currently in progress at the SAI centre in Aizawl under the Khelo India scheme. Khadse noted that Mizoram shows immense promise in football and hockey. She stated, "Sustained and institutional support, better infrastructure and coordination between the Centre and state governments would be crucial in enabling more sportspersons from Mizoram and the Northeast to reach higher levels of competition."
Khadse also visited Saitual during her trip. She has a scheduled visit to Kolasib this Wednesday. These efforts align with the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to foster a competitive sports culture across the region.
