Shillong: Shillong hits the big screen next month. The 31st European Union Film Festival begins its run in Meghalaya from November 12 to 18. This opening leg features 21 films, each representing one of the 21 European Union Member States.
Screenings happen at four city spots: the Asian Confluence Centre, Lady Keane College, St. Edmund’s College, and KL Bajoria College. The lineup includes award-winning titles like Rose, Sir?t, ?ejtune, The Richest Woman in the World, and A Year of School. These films cover topics like gender identity, privilege, family, and defiance.
The Delegation of the European Union to India organized the event with the Asian Confluence Centre. Jean-Eric Paquet, the EU Ambassador to India, visits the city on November 13 for the screenings. Paquet believes the city is the right place to start. "The European Union Film Festival returns with the 31st edition, this time starting in Shillong, a city with a rich cultural pulse and a deep love for storytelling," he said.
Curator Artur Zaborski wants to show Indian viewers the diverse voices of Europe. After the Meghalaya run, the festival heads to New Delhi from November 25 to December 4. It finishes with a stop in Pune later in December.
