Shillong: Meghalaya is bracing for a massive turnout at this year's Cherry Blossom Festival. Inquiries are flooding in from across India and international locations. Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh confirmed the growing interest during a Thursday interview with The Shillong Times.
The flowers arrived early this season. They cover more ground than they did last year. "You must have noticed that the cherry blossoms have actually bloomed now and far more than what was last year," Lyngdoh said. This widespread flowering serves as a major draw for the state's flagship tourism event.
Big crowds mean big business. Local hotels, transport services, and restaurants expect a significant uptick in activity. The department anticipates a heavy flow of visitors from southern India and abroad to witness the event.
Lyngdoh kept a tight lid on specific festival dates and attractions for now. He cited other pressing government priorities as the reason for the delay. "I will share the details later because right now my entire focus is on getting the ropeway project off the ground," he said.
