Guwahati: Lakhimpur Police caught a woman Wednesday at Harmuti railway junction. She had four fake gold pitchers in her bags. The suspect, Jaynas Parvin of Daulatpur, intended to board a train headed for New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.

Officers moved fast. A team led by Harmuti Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge Anupam Chetia intercepted Parvin on the platform after receiving a tip-off. Police confirmed the items were knockoffs intended for sale outside Assam.

This bust suggests traders in Bongalmora are changing tactics. Previously, these networks shipped fake gold shaped like boats or crucifixes. Authorities noted that despite a recent lull, illicit gold rings remain active near the Laluk and Bihpuria police stations. As one official put it, the "seizure has brought attention to a possible shift in the methods used by counterfeit gold traders operating in Bongalmora."
