Shillong: Public health experts gathered at the Indian Institute of Public Health in Shillong on Friday to address regional crises. Researchers scrutinized teenage pregnancy, respiratory ailments among traffic police, and sanitation defects in public hospitals. The studies also covered scrub typhus, cancer prevention, and zoonotic infections. Health Secretary Ram Kumar S urged officials to act on these findings. He stated, "Ensure that scientific evidence translates into effective policies and better healthcare planning."
Infrastructure may finally reach the Warsan Lyngdoh area. Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein surveyed an 8-km stretch between Nongriniang and Nongtnger, a project stalled for four decades. The road aims to connect 13 villages, including Puinskei, Nongtynniam, Nongmalang, Nonglangmendia, New Nongtnger, Mawkynphor, Mawiawlang, Nongbah Jynrin, Mawthabah, Langurlieh, and Langjarain. Landowners promised free land for the project.
The Garo Students’ Union pushed for a Wangala Festival holiday. President Zikku Balgra N. Marak asked banks, private firms, and central departments to close from November 11 to 14. He noted that many indigenous workers remain at their desks during the thanksgiving event.
Legal and administrative updates continue across the state. Justice Wanlura Diengdoh will lead the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission for four years. Meanwhile, election officials published final electoral rolls for Nongstoin, Rambrai Jyrngam, and Mawshynrut. Qualifying for these rolls ended October 1, 2026.
Educational and cultural events also took hold. Nearly 300 students attended a science exhibition at the Assam Regimental Centre. Separately, the Shillong Science Centre hosted a night sky watch at Myrkhan Village. The Shillong Sakha honoured Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s 15th death anniversary with music and performances by Lou Majaw, Ampareen Lyngdoh, and Sanjoy Hazarika.
