Kohima: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton slammed the state's splintered underground factions on Saturday. He signaled that New Delhi will deliver one single solution for the Naga political issue, shutting down the possibility of separate deals for the 36 to 37 factions currently operating in the state.
Extortion is out of control. The districts of Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland are feeling the heat as these groups bleed the public dry. Patton warned that Nagaland holds the dubious title of having the most underground factions in the country. He pushed for these groups to drop their agendas and work together.
Patton spoke at the Multi Disciplinary Sports Complex in Dimapur during the Tokhu Emong festival. The Lotha Naga tribe hosts the event to celebrate a strong harvest and thank God for the year's bounty. He urged the local Lotha community to grasp the gravity of the ongoing political movement and push for a resolution that benefits everyone.
Unity is the only path forward. Patton told the crowd, "We should not encourage disunity and should not be a part of dividing our Naga society." He concluded by offering his greetings to the Lotha community, hoping the festival fosters peace and strengthens brotherhood across the region.
