Kohima: Former Nagaland Home Minister Thenucho Tunyi visited Dimapur Railway High School on November 7. He met with staff, in-charge faculty, and members of the DRHS Ex Students Forum. Tunyi promised to provide advisory guidance and support for the future of the school and its students. He told the attendees that as a senior Naga leader, he would "extend support and intervene whenever required in matters concerning the welfare, educational interests and future prospects of students in Nagaland."
The school opened in 1951. Seven railway workers and social activists from the Bengali community founded it. It remains one of the oldest schools in the state. Now, the alumni group wants to fix the failing infrastructure. Chairman Bishnu Bhattacharjee and general secretary Pradip Mahajan lead the Ex Students Forum. They have pushed hard for government and railway aid.
The Forum plans to head to the Northeast Frontier Railway headquarters in Maligaon, Guwahati. They will meet the General Manager and the Principal Chief Personnel Officer. The delegation intends to invite these officials to the Platinum Jubilee. They also plan to press them for help with the school building. The celebration is set for December 18, 19, and 20, 2026.
