Kohima: The Ongpangkong Senso Telongjem Dimapur (OSTD) Academic Trust handed out an Academic Excellence Award on October 24. The event took place at the Dimapur Government College auditorium. Officials recognized Impunenla Pongen for hitting the 17th position in the 2026 Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) HSLC examination. Pongen, a former Unity Christian Higher Secondary School student, currently attends Little Star Higher Secondary School. She credited her success to the Ao community and divine guidance.
Pongen shared a memory from a church service during her studies. She recalled hearing an assuring voice during a Wednesday church service saying, "Your prayers will be answered."
Limatoshi Jamir, an official from the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, exhorted parents to reclaim their Christian heritage. He argued that the community’s strength relies on a commitment to education and compassionate values. Jamir warned students against the confusion caused by moral relativism and excessive internet use. He urged them to stay rooted in their history while developing critical thinking skills.
The afternoon session focused on emotional well-being. Resource person Ketuno Sophie Imchen of Roots & Wings addressed common struggles like anxiety, bullying, and low self-esteem. She advised students to journal and limit social media use. She reminded the audience that "every life has value" regardless of academic rank or popularity.
The OSTD Academic Trust launched this award program in 2022. Five students have received the prize, which includes cash and a certificate. Other participants included Rev Dr Lima Jamir, Mefutiba, Benjongtoshi, Moajungla Jamir, Dr Martemjen, Akangjungla, and Dr Sentisangla Imsong. Volunteers from the Chuchuyimpang Kaketshir Telongjem Dimapur helped staff the event.
