Kohima: Nagaland State Transport is putting buses back on the road. Daily service between Niuland and Dimapur restarts October 21, 2026. General Manager Shikhaho P Yeptho confirmed the move following government approval granted back on June 20, 2023.
The route stretches 34 km. Commuters should look for service number 405 UP leaving Niuland and service number 406 DOWN departing from Dimapur. The department aims to provide a cheaper ride for the public.
Peace Channel and the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research praised the decision. These groups previously sent an appeal on December 9, 2025, noting that students struggled to reach education and training programs without reliable transport. The organizations stated, "The absence of accessible and affordable public transportation had created practical barriers for children seeking educational opportunities and participating in peacebuilding initiatives."
Local community leaders and Peace Club members backed the push for connectivity. The groups believe this bus link reduces financial strain on families. It gives young people a better shot at attending classes and development events in Dimapur.
