Chümoukedima Groups Demand End to Extortion Ahead of Festive Season

Kohima: Three organizations in Chümoukedima issued a stern warning Saturday to Naga national political groups. The Chumoukedima Town Youth Organisation, the Chumoukedima Chamber of Commerce and Trade Association, and the Chumoukedima Town Council want an immediate halt to extortion, intimidation, and anti-social behavior. They noticed underground cadres gathering near town as the holidays draw near. Reports from several quarters indicate these factions are actively demanding taxes and fees from construction workers.

Chümoukedima is a growing, peaceful town. Businesses thrive here. The coalition insists that both local and non-local shops deserve to operate without fear. They refuse to tolerate any threats to this environment. The joint statement declared: "Any attempt to disrupt this environment or threaten the business community will not be tolerated."

The groups warned business owners against paying any taxes to underground factions. They also cautioned against price gouging during the festive season. If a shop owner faces demands, they must report the issue to authorities immediately. The organizations reaffirmed the February 13, 2014 resolution of "One Government, One Tax" and demanded that all parties respect this collective public decision.

The groups issued their joint statement on November 7. They are specifically pushing for the cadres to refrain from these activities as a measure to protect public safety throughout the upcoming holiday period.
