Kohima: The Tokhu Emong-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival 2026 kicked off at the Public Ground in Wokha on November 4. Locals gathered to honor the Lotha community’s heritage. Lotha Hoho Chairman Er Mhondamo Ovung oversaw the event. He cut the ribbon on the festival stalls to signal the start of operations.
Ezung addressed the crowd regarding the place of culture within the church. He argued that traditional celebrations and faith can exist side by side. "Tokhu Emong was not intended to contradict religious beliefs but to preserve the roots, identity, culture and heritage of the Lotha community, just as other Naga tribes celebrate their respective traditional festivals," he stated. The event acts as a period for thanksgiving, seeking forgiveness, swapping gifts, and tightening community bonds.
Proceedings began with an invocation from Pastor (Retd.) Rev Tssopemo Ngullie of AG Wokha. Rev Abemo Jungio of the Wokha Town Baptist Church offered the inauguration prayer. Students from Isaiah Ability School performed a traditional folksong for the attendees. Lotha Hoho Cultural Secretary Yihamo Patton detailed the rules for the festival stalls. Lotha Hoho Vice Chairman N Elis Jungio chaired the event alongside members of the Lotha Students' Union.
