Porbami community celebrates Khukhu festival in Kohima

Kohima: The Porbami community marked the Khukhu festival on August 8 at the City Centre in Kohima. Organized by the Porbami Social Club Kohima (PSCK) Thünoko Krotho, the event honored the strength and dignity of local women. Attendees arrived in traditional attire and ornaments to share food, play indigenous games, and enjoy cultural performances.

Guest of honor Küthovolü Keyho, a PGT in Political Science at the Government Higher Secondary School in Jotsoma, addressed the crowd. She urged the community to maintain their legacy of honesty and truthfulness. She pushed for equal opportunity and urged women to utilize government programs like Mission Shakti and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. Keyho stated, "Education form the greatest gift one can give to their children for holistic growth and posterity."

Vechisalu Nukhu, president of the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS), called for the preservation of Naga identity. She urged parents to teach their children their mother tongue and promote the Tenyidie language. Shekhozo Thüluo, former chairman of Porba Village Council, explained the historical significance of the festival.

The event was chaired by PSCK women wing chairperson Kudulu T. Vadeo. Rhücho Türeng offered the invocation, while Rev. Dr. Kevekhalo Lasuh, senior pastor of Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima, prayed for the feast. The celebration featured folk songs by Somhi Lüshie Krotho and a duet by Lutsülü Chiero and Zhozolu. Zhovelu Dzudo delivered the vote of thanks, and Huvetsolu Dzudo pronounced the benediction. Porba village, located near Pfutsero in Phek district, is known as a station for the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun and the Phek district Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
