Kohima: Longsa village launched its four-day Tsüngremmung Festival on the evening of July 31. The Longsa Village Council organized the event with support from the Nagaland Department of Tourism. Rural Development Minister Metsübo Jamir attended as the guest of honor. He warned against changing local customs to fit modern trends. Jamir told attendees that the village culture is "one and indivisible" and must remain authentic for the future.
The opening night featured a cultural competition at the community hall. Four village khels and the Mokokchung Unit fielded five teams in two distinct events. Lion’s Club won the Wadang Ken competition for ladies, while the Mokokchung Unit took second place. In the men’s Lidem Meyu event, Eagle Club grabbed top honors with Lion’s Club finishing as runners-up. Winners received cash prizes for their efforts.
Alemyongba performed on the Ku Kongki, a traditional cup violin. Tatar Jongpongtemshi delivered the vote of thanks to close the ceremony. Festivities run through August 3. Winners from the opening events will display their skills again during the main celebration this Saturday.
