Kohima: Women from Porbami gathered at the Kohima City Centre on August 8 to mark the Khukhu festival. Organized by the Porbami Social Club, Kohima (PSCK) Thünoko Krotho, the event featured local women wearing traditional attire. Participants shared cultural songs and indigenous games. They enjoyed a feast prepared to demonstrate care and affection for the women of the community.
Küthovolü Keyho, a teacher at Govt. Higher Secondary School Jotsoma, addressed the crowd. She thanked the men of Porbami for upholding the dignity of women. Keyho pushed for continued advocacy for gender equality and the use of federal programs like Mission Shakti and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. She noted, "Education form the greatest gift one can give to their children for holistic growth and posterity."
Vechisalü Nukhu, president of the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society, urged the attendees to protect their Naga identity through heritage. She asked parents to teach their children the mother tongue and promote Tenyidie. Former Porba Village Council chairman Shekhozo Thulüo detailed the history of the festival. The program included a blessing from Rhücho Türeng and a prayer by Rev. Dr. Kevekhalo Lasuh.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Zhovelü Dzüdo and closing remarks by PSCK chairman Ngosayi D. Sakhamo. Porba village, located near Pfutsero in Phek district, remains home to the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun and a Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
