Lotha Eloe Hoho Launches Traditional Weaving Training in Wokha

Kohima: The Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH) kicked off a traditional loin weaving and training program on October 17 at Lotha Eloe Hoho Ki in Wokha. The initiative runs through October 24. Support comes from the Nagaland Women Resource Development department under the 2026-27 District Resource and Development Programme.

Renbomo Ezung, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, cut the ribbon to launch the unit. He told the crowd that the craft defines the community. Ezung urged participants to take the work seriously rather than viewing it as a casual hobby. "Learning a traditional craft requires patience, consistent practice, and a willingness to improve," he said.

Nzanthung K Yanthan, an official from the Department of Women Resource Development in Kohima, said the project aims to help women make their own clothes and eventually earn an income. He pushed for teamwork and a positive attitude among the trainees.

Er Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman of Lotha Hoho, told attendees that traditional skills matter just as much as formal education. He argued that weaving connects people to their roots. LEH President Thungbeni Ngullie thanked the department for its backing. She stressed the need to move these indigenous skills to younger generations to keep the Lotha cultural identity strong. General Secretary Chanchano Patton chaired the event, while Meribeni Ngullie Kikon provided the invocation.
