Wokha Kicks Off Uphill Battle Tarmac and Northeast Championship

Kohima: Headstrong Racing Club (HRC) started its 1st Uphill Battle Tarmac 2026 and Northeast Championship 4.6 on October 9. The event sits on Nyiro Range Road in Wokha. Extra Assistant Commissioner Sangmou Khiamniungan served as the special guest for the opening ceremony.

Lichithung Murry chaired the event. Pastor N Zuben Ngullie delivered the invocation. Peter Rutsa, advisor to the Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC), gave the welcome address alongside representatives from the Nyiro Range Youth Organisation. HRC advisor Mhao noted the club formed in 2023 to grow local motorsport. The NAC helped organize this debut.

The competition includes a five-kilometre tarmac hill-climb. It splits into a three-kilometre stage and a two-kilometre stage. Drivers compete in SUV, Below 1300cc, and Open categories. A total prize pool of Rs 3 lakh draws racers from across the Northeast. Registration opened October 8.

Sangmou praised the organizers for their grit. He reminded the crowd that every millisecond counts. Addressing the importance of the race, he said, "The event was not only about racing but also served as a reminder of the importance of time in everyday life."

The special guest flagged off the race to start the action. He lauded the cooperation between village authorities and participants. Organizers hope the peaceful Nyiro Range setting encourages fair play and good sportsmanship among all drivers.
