Guwahati: The Guwahati unit of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence raided businesses tied to Vimal Pan Masala. Officials moved fast. Additional Director General Rajeev Garg led teams in simultaneous sweeps across Guwahati, Delhi, Dhubri, and Greater Noida. They caught the firms dodging seven crore rupees in taxes.

Investigators seized a pile of documents and several trucks missing the right paperwork. They handcuffed two gutkha dealers during the operation. Police identified the pair as Kamlesh Tiwari and Anuj Tiwari. Officials sent both men to Guwahati Central Jail.

Legal experts are questioning the validity of these arrests. The GST Council issued a specific directive on October 7 that restricts the department from making direct arrests for tax evasion. Doubts remain regarding why the Guwahati zone ignored this rule. Critics are asking, "why the Additional Director General of the Guwahati zone arrested the two persons and sent them to jail despite the Council's decision."
