Guwahati: GST agents stormed five businesses in Assam on Sunday, August 23. They targeted the Ratabari and Patharkandi areas. The raids focus on suspected tax evasion within the rubber trade. Officials suspect these firms used fake Input Tax Credit claims to dodge their legal tax bills.
The sweep hit Kazirbazar Rubber Enterprise, linked to Sabbir Ahmed, and Safeway Solutions, tied to Shamim Ahmed. Dilruba Begum’s Ujala Traders, Foyez Ahmed’s United Commercial, and Abu Tahir’s T&T Trading & Company also face scrutiny. Manuj Kr Dowari, Superintendent of State Tax, led the operation with help from Assam Police.
Sribhumi serves as a hub for raw rubber production. Large volumes leave the state daily. Investigators are currently sifting through financial records to track the money. They want to pin down the exact revenue loss from these schemes. The department expects more data soon. As one official noted: "Financial records, transaction details and other relevant documents are being examined to determine the nature and extent of the alleged irregularities."
Tax investigators aim to calculate the total value of these transactions. They are hunting for the final figure on irregular tax credits and total liability. Further details remain pending as the audit of seized files continues.
