CGST Seizes 50 Coal Trucks in Assam Amid Corruption Claims

Guwahati: Central Goods and Services Tax authorities intercepted 50 vehicles hauling lam coke across Lower Assam districts. The operation spanned from Friday night through Monday, hitting Kamrup, Barpeta, and Dhubri. The confiscated cargo holds an estimated value of Rs 3 crore. By Wednesday, officials kept 27 of these trucks locked at a Changsari parking site.

Drivers and owners are pushing back. They dispute the legal basis for the stops, citing concerns over missing documentation like MOV-1 and MOV-2 forms. Some operators feel targeted by bad actors. "There could be an attempt to create a syndicate and illegally collect money even after applicable taxes had been paid," according to allegations from drivers and owners.

CGST Guwahati officials insist the case remains under review. They have yet to prove any wrongdoing or identify specific tax violations. Investigators must now cross-reference invoices, e-way bills, and tax records to settle the dispute. No final findings exist. The truth depends on whether these loads actually broke the law or if enforcement agents botched the paperwork.
