Guwahati: Assam Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika touched down in Karbi Anglong on August 19 for his debut visit as Guardian Minister. He chaired a high-stakes review meeting at Taralangso alongside Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, local MLAs, and various executive members.
Hazarika put the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund under the microscope. He focused on loan utility and the 3% interest subvention meant to help farmers and agri-entrepreneurs. The minister also pushed to widen PM-KISAN coverage by ironing out messy land ownership disputes. Procurement logistics for paddy dominated the agenda, with officials demanding stricter adherence to timelines.
The minister mapped out a massive expansion for local crops. He targeted five crore horticulture saplings each year and promoted oil palm as a high-return alternative. On the pineapple front, he demanded better processing and value addition to boost farmer profits. Hazarika explicitly ordered the Agriculture Department to draft a Makhana Mission for foxtail nut production to raise household income levels.
Hazarika emphasized the need for consistent follow-through on these state goals. "The government would closely follow up on these priorities to ensure that its initiatives translate into tangible benefits for farmers and entrepreneurs across Karbi Anglong," he stated. He also committed to creating new pathways for women entrepreneurs throughout the district.
