Guwahati: Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania is calling on the city to embrace a new color scheme. He wants homes, businesses, and public spaces painted light purple. The move pays homage to the kopou phool, which serves as the official state flower of Assam.

Sarania demands action from all corners of the city. He expects owners of shops, hotels, private offices, restaurants, and bus stands to repaint their storefronts. This request also targets residential associations, clubs, and non-governmental organizations. The civic body wants light purple splashed across boundary walls, entryways, signboards, and roadside pots.

City officials have a broader plan for urban upkeep alongside the painting campaign. Residents must keep vacant lots clear of trash and scrub the area in front of their properties every single day. The corporation wants better waste management through strict segregation and scientific disposal methods. Owners need to plant ornamental trees and keep their surroundings tidy. "Through the collective efforts of everyone, we appeal to the citizens of Guwahati to help make the city more beautiful and build a purple city," Sarania said.
