Guwahati: Assam Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika wants MLAs to get to work. On Wednesday, July 15, he asked assembly members to round up progressive farmers and agri-entrepreneurs for a big meeting. They need to show up at the Jyoti Bishnu Auditorium in Guwahati on July 25 for the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund awareness programme.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will lead the event. Roughly 5,000 entrepreneurs from across the state are expected to pack the venue. The goal is to get more people signed up for the Government of India flagship scheme. It aims to build better farm facilities and post-harvest storage systems nationwide.
Hazarika explained how the money works. Eligible folks can grab loans hitting Rs 2 crore for building projects. The deal includes a three per cent interest subvention. Applicants must go through the AIF portal. Banks will then vet the paperwork to check creditworthiness before handing over the cash. While some farmers have already used the scheme, many more remain in the dark.
The minister urged local leaders to bridge that gap. He wants lawmakers to guide constituents through the application process and help them tap into institutional credit. "He also requested members of the Assembly to attend the event and encourage beneficiaries to take full advantage of the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund scheme." Hazarika expects full cooperation from the floor to ensure the programme reaches its target.
