Shillong: Meghalaya State Food Commission Chairman DP Wahlang wants better teamwork to fix food distribution. He spoke August 29 at a Dadenggre awareness camp titled National Food Security Act 2013, a Sustainable Initiative for Achieving Zero Hunger. Government aid must hit the mark. Citizens need to know their rights under the 2013 law.
Wahlang oversees the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, plus PM POSHAN and Mid-Day Meal schemes. He wants nutritious food reaching children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. He issued a blunt warning to officials: "Beneficiaries should not be deprived of these rights." He told the crowd that nobody should go hungry or die from starvation.
The Chairman inspected the area and found failing infrastructure. He ordered the administration to fix broken water supplies and replace missing fans at local Anganwadi Centres. Citizens can now file complaints through village-level Vigilance Committees.
State Social Audit Council Chairperson T. Lyngwa, Dr. M. Tyngkan, Israel Ingty, and Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal attended the event. Officials from Tura and Dadenggre presented data on Smart Public Distribution systems and PM POSHAN goals. Sub-Divisional Officer C. Awasthi and local Fair Price Shop dealers joined the talks. The commission plans more block-level camps next year to reach the last mile of service delivery.
