Shillong: Meghalaya State Food Commission Chairman DP Wahlang recently led an awareness camp at the Dadenggre C&RD Block Multi Facility Centre. He urged residents to exercise their rights under the National Food Security Act of 2013. Everyone deserves their fair share. Wahlang explained that the Commission monitors food distribution by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs. They also oversee the PM Poshan and Mid Day Meal schemes to ensure children and expectant mothers receive proper nutrition.
Wahlang warned officials against negligence. No one should go hungry because of administrative failure. He encouraged citizens to utilize government resources and report grievances to local vigilance committees if they face issues with food distribution. During his visit to the region on Thursday, he noted delays in some operations. He ordered Dadenggre Sub-Division officials to install fans in Anganwadi centres immediately.
The event honored individuals for their service. The Commission recognized Anganwadi worker Pavitra Sangma and school cook Lucy Marak for their dedication. Five local Fair Price Shop dealers, Rimnang Marak, Sonowar Ali, Abtus Sater, Hasmut Ali, and Masidhur Islam, received recognition for completing 100 percent e-KYC verification. Notable attendees included State Social Audit Council Chairperson T Lyngwa IAS (Retd), Commission members Dr. M Tyngkan and Israel Ingty, and West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner for Supply Vibhor Aggarwal.
