Vandalism strikes car of Mawkhar Presbyterian Church pastor in Shillong

Shillong: Vandals smashed the passenger side window of a Maruti car belonging to Rev. Kyrsoibor Pyrtuh, a former pastor of Mawkhar Presbyterian Church, on Thursday evening. Pyrtuh parked near New Hope Restaurant by Barik Point at 6 pm. He returned four hours later to find the glass shattered. He left nothing of value inside the vehicle.

Pyrtuh noted that the road remained busy with trucks hauling Durga Puja idols during his absence. He scouted the area for surveillance footage but only spotted one camera near the Superintendent of Police’s office, which sits too far away to capture the scene. "It could have been the handiwork of a drug addict, but I cannot say for certain," he said.

The incident echoes a prior attack on a Mahindra Bolero owned by Rev. MacDonald Pyngrope, another figure tied to Mawkhar Presbyterian Church. That vehicle suffered a shattered rear windshield. Authorities opened an investigation into that case, which surfaced during an internal church fight over alleged money mismanagement. Officials have not confirmed any link between the two events.

Pyrtuh declined to file a formal FIR. He cited the workload of the police and a lack of progress regarding the previous case as his primary reasons. He currently lacks any leads on who might have targeted his car.
