Shillong: The Meghalaya Cabinet officially cleared the Meghalaya School Education (School Complex) Rules, 2026. This move hits the brakes on current transition hurdles. Officials want a smoother path for kids moving from primary levels into secondary schooling.
The state faces a massive numbers gap. Meghalaya counts 9,244 Lower Primary schools against just 532 Higher Secondary institutions. Students struggle to find spots as they grow up. The new framework fixes this by tethering Lower and Upper Primary schools to nearby Secondary and Higher Secondary sites.
Administrators expect the plan to gut redundant paperwork and stop the cycle of endless admission procedures. The government stated the policy will strengthen the "network of nodal and model schools across blocks, subdivisions and districts." This will expand quality secondary education statewide. It creates better coordination between classrooms to help students keep moving forward.
