Shillong: Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra sees massive potential in Meghalaya. He expects the state to shine during the 39th National Games scheduled for March 2027. Bindra spoke to reporters on Friday in Shillong after opening the state's first High-Performance Sports Science Centre. He believes the event will push the region into the national spotlight.

The veteran shooter supports Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in his goal to turn the state into a premier sports hub. Bindra promised his team will provide technical support to help reach that target. He cited the state's young population and deep-rooted athletic culture as the primary drivers for future success. He said, "Meghalaya has a large young population and a culture in which sport already plays a significant role."

Infrastructure work continues. Officials are pouring money into scientific training and athlete development to prepare for the upcoming games. Bindra remains excited about the path forward for the state's athletes.
