Shillong: Ri-Bhoi held the top spot on the second day of the Meghalaya State Senior Athletics Championship 2026. The event continues through September 15 in Shillong. Ri-Bhoi boasts eight gold, three silver, and six bronze medals. East Khasi Hills sits in second place with four gold, four silver, and one bronze. Eastern West Khasi Hills follows in third with three gold, two silver, and three bronze medals.
The Meghalaya Athletics Association runs the three-day meet at the Sports Authority of India centre on the NEHU campus. The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs supports the competition. Every district has now secured at least one medal. Athletes compete for spots ahead of the 39th National Games.
East Khasi Hills dominated the track, winning both the men's and women's 4x400m relays. Daniel L Wahlang secured the men's 5000m gold. Balasiewdor Pathaw crushed the field in the women's 5000m. She finished "around one-and-a-half minutes ahead of her closest competitor."
Ri-Bhoi added gold when Anrisha Klein took the women's long jump and Banistar Syiem won the men's shot put. West Jaintia Hills swept the 4x100m relay gold, leaving East Khasi Hills with silver in both. North Garo Hills athlete Tushal M Sangma won the men's javelin. South Garo Hills earned gold through Dilme Ch Marak in the women's discus and Nokme Ch Sangma in the women's javelin. Eliam Bonkam G Sangma picked up the first medal for South West Garo Hills by winning the men's long jump. Lastly Surong of East Jaintia Hills took the men's 400m gold, while Tengsilchi B Marak grabbed the women's 400m title.
