Shillong: Three schools grabbed championship titles at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on July 25. The five-day tournament organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs featured school teams from across Meghalaya. The winners will now advance to the national-level Subroto Mukherjee Cup.
North Liberty Higher Secondary School of West Jaintia Hills secured the Under-15 Boys title with a 2-1 win over Umpohliew Jingtip Higher Secondary School. Kyrshanlang Chyrmang found the net in the 19th minute, and Malcolm Nongbsap struck again one minute later. Meshanskhem Kharbudon scored for the East Khasi Hills squad in the 43rd minute. Inibait Lamare of North Liberty earned the Player of the Tournament award, while Fairland Nengnong of Umpohliew Jingtip was named Best Goalkeeper.
Little Star Higher Secondary School from Eastern West Khasi Hills took the Under-17 Girls trophy. The team beat North Liberty 4-1 in a penalty shootout after playing to a goalless draw. Jessica Myrthong took home the Player of the Tournament honor, and Joplin Thongni secured the title of Best Goalkeeper.
O.M. Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School dominated the Under-17 Boys category with a 3-0 victory against Wapung Higher Secondary School of East Jaintia Hills. Deiwamut Syiem notched goals in the 21st and 69th minutes, while Chesterfield Umsong added one in the 43rd minute. Ebenezer Sun was named Player of the Tournament for the boys, and Redimingson Phawa of Wapung was chosen as the Best Goalkeeper. Officials concluded the event with a ceremony, officially marking the end of this year's state competition.
