Postal Department Honors Meghalaya Hindu Mission Centenary

Shillong: The Department of Posts issued a special commemorative cover to mark the Meghalaya Hindu Mission centenary. The organization turns 100 in 2026. Officials gathered at the Shillong General Post Office to release the cover.

Senior Superintendent of Post Offices R. Padmanabhan joined forces with Senior Postmaster Poireiton Thokchom and the Assistant Director of Philately for the North East Postal Circle to host the event. The mission has spent a century focused on education, child welfare, and community service. Mission secretary Biplab Kumar Das described the group's evolution from the original Hindu Sanmelan Anath Ashram to its current operations, which include a school, a children's home, and the Shri Shri Parthasarathi Mandir.

Padmanabhan praised the long-term impact of the group. "The centenary cover serves as a permanent record of its service and brings its legacy into India’s philatelic archives," he said. Vice-president Gopal Chanda and school principal Arobinda Roy attended alongside executive members and teaching staff. Thokchom closed the ceremony with a vote of thanks.
