Guwahati: Assam Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Pijush Hazarika is dumping Rs 7,000 crore into the state’s irrigation network over the next five years. This spending plan hits triple the figures seen during the last five-year stretch. The goal is clear. He wants more water on more land.
Hazarika reviewed the Irrigation Department’s progress and issued a stern warning. Delays that kill funding will not slide. “Non-utilisation of funds due to delays in implementation would not be tolerated,” Hazarika said. He expects every rupee to result in actual irrigated acreage.
The state aims to build larger, sharper schemes while cutting out bloated or useless intake points. These changes represent the next phase of agricultural growth for Assam. Officials plan to prioritize efficiency to bolster farmers and keep the state’s cultivation growing fast.
