Guwahati: Artificial flooding has paralyzed Genduwa Pathar, a village under the Hati Jujua Panchayat in Assam's Rupahihat constituency. Water traps the entire area. Every single acre of agricultural land now sits underwater, leaving farmers with no crop and livestock with no feed.
Residents blame the mess on a lack of basic drainage and the illegal blocking of local culverts. Locals also pointed to haphazardly excavated fisheries as a primary cause of the rising water. The flooded roads have severed transit, forcing local school children to wade through knee-deep water just to reach their classrooms.
The stagnant water eventually reached school grounds, forcing staff to suspend all classes. The administration has stayed silent on the illegal culvert blockages, fueling deep resentment among the villagers. Locals demand an immediate, permanent fix to the drainage failures. One resident stated, "Residents alleged that the absence of timely drainage measures by the administration has allowed the situation to worsen." People now wait for the government to act before the water destroys more property.

The crisis has spilled over into other parts of the Rupahi Revenue Circle. Residents in Kachari Gaon, Lalung Gaon, and Kaliyadinga report similar inundation following recent heavy rains, which has paralyzed daily routines and access to essential services across the region.
A team led by the Rupahi Revenue Circle Officer and departmental officials surveyed the affected villages on Tuesday. During the inspection, locals pressed the administration for emergency flood relief and demanded long-term engineering fixes to clear the stagnant water.
