Guwahati: Farmers in the Bajali district of Assam are demanding help. Nearly 100 bighas of fertile land at Dolo Pathar sit under water this season. This field is the primary agricultural site for Baghmara Adarsha Gaon. Nothing grows there now. The rainwater has nowhere to go.
The trouble stems from a blocked drainage channel located under National Highway 127(A). Villagers claim local residents encroached on the site and built permanent boundary walls on government land. The drain is jammed with thick soil and trash. Water cannot flow. The blockage turned the fields into a swamp.
Locals have reached out for a fix. They sent formal memoranda to the MLA of the Bajali constituency and the National Highways Sub-Divisional Office. The farmers want the authorities to clear the debris and tear down the illegal walls. They believe prompt government intervention will save the land. According to the villagers, "timely action was essential to prevent further losses to farmers and safeguard agricultural activities in the area." Restoring the flow remains the only way to get these fields back to work.
