Heavy Rain Decimates Winter Paddy Across Assam's Kaliabor Region

Guwahati: Heavy rain and persistent flooding have wiped out hundreds of hectares of winter paddy in Assam’s Kaliabor region. Farmers across Balitika, Bagharchuk, Borbhakati, and Madhatari report that their fields remain waterlogged despite receding water levels. The destruction is total. Seedlings have been rotting in the mud for five to six days.

For many, replanting is not an option. The crop loss threatens the food supply and yearly income for families who rely on this harvest for their survival. Farmers say the prolonged soaking ruined the entire season and created significant financial gaps.

Local growers are now calling on government officials to visit the area. They want an immediate assessment of the devastation. They are demanding financial support, stating, "The crop loss has added to the difficulties of farming families who depend on the harvest for their food and livelihood through the year."
