Guwahati: The Missa Juri river broke its banks and flooded farms across the Kaliabor Revenue Circle. Waist-deep water now covers expansive tracts of land in Barpeta Dalani and Barpeta Habi Pathar. Crops are dying. The paddy saplings have sat under the rising water for nearly a week.

Around 200 farmers face financial ruin. They counted on this harvest to support their families in the coming months, but the stagnant water shows no signs of receding. The flooding threatens to wipe out the entire season.

Locals want action. They are pressuring authorities to drain the fields and offer financial relief for the extensive crop damage. One resident stated, "The affected farming community has urged the authorities to take immediate steps to drain the accumulated water and provide necessary assistance to farmers whose crops have been damaged by the flooding."
