Guwahati: Assam Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Pijush Hazarika toured the Kamrup region to assess the state's growing makhana industry. He visited the Assam Makhana Udyog processing unit located at Bamphor in Topatoli alongside MLA Dr. Tapan Kumar Gogoi. They inspected the facility to learn how raw makhana undergoes processing and value addition.
The officials moved to the Durung area to watch farmers work the fields. Hazarika spoke directly with local growers about their daily challenges and specific equipment needs. He noted that the crop could transform the local economy. The minister pushed for better technology and stronger market connections to ensure workers see higher profits.
Hazarika aims to build a robust supply chain that bridges the gap between raw cultivation and final sales. He stated, "The importance of technology, processing infrastructure and market linkages to enable farmers to derive greater economic benefits from the crop." This initiative seeks to provide new jobs and solidify the role of makhana in the agricultural future of Assam.
