Guwahati: Assam Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika gathered farmers and PepsiCo representatives in Nalbari on September 8 to fix the state potato supply chain. PepsiCo currently buys potatoes directly from local growers. Officials want to bridge the gap between farm output and market profit.
Farmers aired their grievances during the meeting. They face hurdles in production and finding reliable buyers. Hazarika pressed for better infrastructure to handle the harvest. He said, "Improving productivity, storage, processing and market linkages would be crucial to increasing returns for potato farmers."
The government plans to link industry experts with cultivators to drive growth. Stronger market access remains the top priority. Better storage and processing plants will help farmers get more cash for their crops. All sides agreed that collaboration is the only way to move forward.
