Assam Minister Pushes Beneficiaries Toward Agri-Based Entrepreneurship

Guwahati: Assam Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika met with over 1,000 beneficiaries of the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan (CMAAA) in Jagiroad this week. He reviewed how local entrepreneurs use state funding to build their businesses. Results matter. The minister pressed the crowd to shift focus away from basic trading.

Hazarika wants them to target poultry, fisheries, piggery, farming, and horticulture. He argued that these sectors provide the only path to sustainable income. He pointed to the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund as a key tool for growth. He told the attendees, "Hazarika encouraged beneficiaries to move beyond conventional trading activities and invest in productive sectors such as poultry, fisheries, piggery, farming and horticulture to create sustainable sources of income."

New ventures like makhana cultivation offer fresh promise. Hazarika stated that diversifying into these fields will bolster the state’s self-reliance. Entrepreneurs at the event discussed the hurdles and wins they faced while expanding with CMAAA assistance. The program aims to turn young residents into business owners. The goal remains simple: grow the rural economy through hard work.
