Guwahati: Assam Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Pijush Hazarika visited the Junbeel Farmer Producer Company to inspect local agricultural operations. He handed out finger millet seeds to the membership and toured the site's women-run hatchery. It is a new project for the collective. The group currently counts 520 members among its ranks.
Hazarika spoke with the farmers about their work in the food sector. These entrepreneurs produce traditional goods like Komal Saul, cakes, and pithas. The group now looks to build a millet processing unit using backing from the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund. Hazarika praised their progress in the field.
"The minister appreciated the group's efforts towards strengthening women-led entrepreneurship and promoting value addition in agriculture," according to the official report of the visit. The FPC remains focused on expanding these rural businesses through local production.
