Guwahati: Security forces dismantled a sprawling international narcotics network during Operation Trident. Authorities raided 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur on October 23. They arrested 18 people. The coordinated strikes hit the syndicate's financial core.
Investigators uncovered hawala transactions totaling 100 crore rupees. Officials froze 1,424 bank accounts. They attached properties worth 17.82 crore rupees and seized 12 lakh rupees in cash. Teams also recovered 500 detonators during the searches. Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the network's smuggling path as the Death Triangle Corridor. It connects India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.
The crackdown forms part of a federal push to destroy all drug networks by December 31, 2029. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma backed the aggressive stance. He remains focused on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan goal. The Centre uses both enforcement and community outreach to curb addiction.
Shah praised the work of central agencies and state police. He issued a warning to other trafficking rings on social media. "India will hammer until the last nail is driven into the coffin of drug cartels," Shah said. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma echoed the sentiment on October 25. "This is a huge blow to the international drugs cartel!" Sarma wrote.
Dhing police in Assam also caught a man with a pistol and two live rounds. Officials are still working to confirm if that local arrest connects to the broader syndicate. Investigations continue as agencies trace further funding links.
