Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma wants answers. He demanded immediate action from Delhi Police after the death of Chongtham Vikram Singh. The renowned Manipuri guitarist and teacher died following a brutal assault outside his home in southeast Delhi. Sangma posted Tuesday that the killing rips open old wounds regarding systemic discrimination against people from the Northeast living in the capital.
The North East India Citizens Forum, Delhi is backing the call for justice. They want a prompt and impartial investigation into the case. "The incident had once again reopened the painful wounds of discrimination and atrocities faced by people from the Northeast in the national capital," Sangma stated. The forum insists investigators must check all CCTV footage and talk to every eyewitness to determine if the attack was fueled by prejudice.
Advocates asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to personally oversee the inquiry. They also want officials to stop dragging their feet on protecting citizens from the region. The forum blasted parts of the mainstream media for ignoring the story, noting that a respected cultural figure deserves far more public attention. Every Indian deserves safety and dignity in the capital.
