Shillong: The Khet Bachao Abhiyan Rabi Campaign kicked off across Meghalaya to push better soil health and modernize farm gear. The drive runs until November 30. It aims to make work on the state's steep, hilly terrain less grueling and more profitable.
Scientists from ICAR headed to Umsarang village in the Ri-Bhoi district. They gathered 20 farmers for a briefing on nutrient management. The experts stressed that soil testing is non-negotiable for checking fertility. They also pushed liming as a fix for acidic soil issues. The team showed off tech built for sloping plots to cut down on back-breaking labor and health hazards. They handed out small tools, French bean seeds, and coriander seeds to the crowd.
The campaign shifted focus to Puriang village in the East Khasi Hills. Here, 30 farmers joined the session, including 27 women. Organizers said the initiative aims to provide direct support and practical guidance to the community. "The campaign seeks to help farmers make informed decisions based on their specific field conditions," organizers noted during the briefing. This state-wide effort focuses on sustainable agriculture through direct interaction.
