Shillong: Gyanendra Dev Tripathi touched down in Meghalaya this Saturday. As Secretary of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Additional Secretary of DARE, he toured key research hubs to check on regional progress. His first stop was the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region in Umiam. He kicked off the visit by starting up a new Solar Biomass-Based Hybrid Dryer. This machine helps farmers dry produce and manage harvests better.
Tripathi met with scientists from ICAR-ATARI and ICAR-NBPGR to review ongoing work. He praised the team for their dedication. He stated, "commended the staff for their work in developing technologies specifically suited for the North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region." The mission then moved to the College of Agriculture in Kyrdemkulai. This school falls under the Central Agricultural University.
Tripathi cut the ribbon on a new Examination-cum-Smart Classroom at the campus. He met with students and faculty to discuss improvements. He told the school to hire teaching assistants for the BSc Agriculture and BSc (Hons) Natural Farming tracks. He also pushed for an elective course system to give students more choice. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra detailed the work the university does across its 13 colleges to help the Northeast grow. Tripathi finished the day by checking the labs and library. He liked what he saw. Prof. Ram Singh, Prof. D. Thakuria, and Dr. Sanjay Swami joined the tour alongside staff and students.
