CM Sangma Presses Coal Ministry for Small-Scale Mining Solution

Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met with Union Ministry of Coal officials in Shillong on Friday. He sat down with the Coal Secretary and the Additional Secretary, who leads a committee tasked with overseeing small-scale coal mining operations in Meghalaya. The session focused on the panel's current progress.

Both sides hashed out plans to identify a functional path for the industry. Mining keeps many families fed here. Sangma pushed for a strategy that balances those livelihoods with environmental protection. He wants miners to operate using scientific methods. "Our effort is to find a way forward that allows our small miners to work scientifically and safely, while protecting the environment," the Chief Minister said.
