Meghalaya Teachers Call October Meeting to Demand Pay Commission Benefits

Shillong: The Meghalaya Unified Teachers Association is mobilizing. Teachers will gather at Student Field in Jaiaw on October 24 at 11 a.m. to demand inclusion in the Sixth State Pay Commission.

MUTA president Aristotle Rymbai expects SSA, RMSA, ad hoc, and fourth teachers to attend. The group wants better service conditions and reliable pay schedules. They intend to review progress from past meetings held with the Education Department on September 16 and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on October 13.

The association demands uniform rules regarding maternity benefits, leave, medical reimbursement, and loans. They also want a one-time special package for senior staff. Regarding their current pay, Rymbai noted, "The association will review the outcomes of its meetings with the Education Department on September 16 and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on October 13, focusing on its charter of demands."

Teachers are pushing for full salary payments in single installments. They also want funds released by the first day of every month. Rymbai insists that unity is the only way to secure these wins.
