Guwahati: Basistha Police seized a massive haul of heroin worth Rs 5.5 crore inside Guwahati’s Bengali Basti. The raid occurred during the ongoing Durga Puja festivities. Officers moved in quickly to shut down a trafficking pipeline.

Law enforcement discovered the illicit stash packed into 42 individual soap boxes ready for transport. Authorities took the alleged drug trafficker, Pranab Das, into custody at the scene.

Police have not yet released details regarding the origin of the consignment or the broader distribution network. The arrest is part of a wider push by city agencies to combat drug trafficking. "The operation was carried out by Basistha Police," the report stated.
