Guwahati: Basistha Police arrested Riku Kashyap on Monday, September 14. He owns the Unique Wellness Foundation rehabilitation centre in Guwahati. Officers took him into custody following a formal complaint claiming a young woman remained tied up at the facility for a long time. She was restrained against her will.
Kashyap is the son of retired police officer Kosheshwar Sharma. Police are now digging into the operations of the centre. Investigators are questioning staff and recording statements to determine how the facility treated its patients. Authorities are working to figure out exactly what happened behind closed doors. "Police are expected to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the alleged confinement and determine whether any offence was committed at the facility."
The investigation is ongoing. Officials continue to review the situation at the centre. More details will come as detectives gather further evidence.

In a separate operation on September 15, Basistha Police nabbed four suspects in Nagaon linked to a string of daytime residential break-ins across Guwahati. Officers recovered 5 lakh rupees in cash, nine mobile phones, and stolen gold ornaments. The arrested include a couple, Faruk and Jimli, along with Tajmul Hussain and Satish Pawar.
Detectives say the crew pried open window grills to hit homes, specifically targeting areas like Bhetapara. Investigators believe Faruk fenced the melted gold, while Hussain and Pawar allegedly acted as fences for the stolen goods. Police are currently digging into whether the gang laundered the loot into luxury vehicles or the Nalbari Warriors cricket team.

Investigators identified Faruk by his alias, Mela. Police claim his wife, Jimli, actively helped her husband execute the daytime residential heists. Authorities are scrutinizing the gang's spending habits to determine if they funneled criminal profits into luxury assets.
In a separate sweep, Basistha Police nabbed five more suspects identified as Santanu Das, Ronit Prasad, Biki Das, Rocky Das, and Prashanta Bora. This second crew allegedly specialized in a different racket, with officers seizing a stolen e-rickshaw, a bicycle, an LPG cylinder, three mobile phones, and a brass utensil from them. These five remain in custody while detectives trace the full scope of their criminal network.
