Guwahati: Rupohihat Police arrested senior Congress leader Rabbul Islam in Samaguri on Saturday, September 5. Officers took the man, also known as Raju, into custody after finding him with heroin during a localized drug sweep. The arrest targets the growing narcotics trade in the region.

Islam holds weight in local politics. His wife, Mohsina Arfuz, serves as a member of the Jiumari panchayat and shares his ties to the Congress party. Beyond his political career, the suspect manages a Customer Service Point for Union Bank. Police operations are ongoing. Local reports suggest, "more Congress leaders from Samaguri could be arrested in connection with the case." Investigators continue to look for further links to the narcotics operation.
