Shillong: Meghalaya Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and West Jaintia Hills Police intercepted a Network Travels passenger bus on Saturday morning. The operation took place at 8 am along NH-6 in the Phramer area. Officers acted on intelligence regarding two individuals moving narcotics from Silchar toward Shillong.

Police stopped the bus, registration number ML-05-T-8381, for a search. They found two plastic soap cases hidden inside a jacket. The contents tested positive for heroin. The stash weighed 48.78 grams and holds a street value of approximately Rs 7 lakh.

The suspects are 33-year-old Robert Nongrum, son of the late Philip Thongni, and 32-year-old Batskhemlang Jarain, son of J Lyngdoh. Both men live in the Umktait area of Nongmynsong, Shillong. Authorities have booked them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

ANTF Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar confirmed the arrests. Officials are now tracking the drug supply chain. They are investigating the source, intended destination, and any interstate links involved in the racket. Kumar stated, "Intelligence-based operations against organised narcotics networks operating within and through Meghalaya would continue." The force is now asking the public to report any information related to drug trafficking to help make the state drug-free.
