Shillong: Meghalaya's Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) pulled 32.64 grams of heroin off the streets on August 10. The street value sits at Rs 5 lakh. Authorities ran two intelligence-driven operations in Umiam to catch traffickers headed toward Shillong.

Officers set up nakas at key spots to stop suspects. They first intercepted a vehicle with license plate AS-01-AV-1166 at Lad Umiam. Police searched Allan Marwein, who lives in Mawlai Nongkwar, Block-13, Shillong. They found a soap case hiding 10.93 grams of heroin inside his car. This search followed all legal procedures in front of independent witnesses.

The task force stayed busy through the night. They flagged down a Scooty, registration number ML-05-AB-9546, after the rider tried to skirt their checkpoint. Officers detained the driver, Jaziel Nongjop Syiem, and searched his person. They found two soap cases tucked inside his jacket. This haul weighed 21.71 grams.

Police seized the drugs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. They arrested both men. The state unit stated these actions are "part of its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and efforts to disrupt organised narcotics networks operating in and through the state." Legal proceedings against the pair are moving forward.
